Vein Treatment

Vein treatment of spider and varicose veins tend to be one of the most requested aesthetic procedures. Varicose veins are often found on the thighs, backs of calves, and the inside of the legs, and look like twisted and bulged cords, that are raised above the skin. Spider veins, however, are smaller and tend to appear closer to the surface of the skin. With their short, jagged lines, they resemble spider webs, and can be found on the legs and face.

Simply speaking, these conditions are often times caused by a back-up of blood in the veins. There are a number of other factors that can contribute to your risk of varicose and spider veins:

Pregnancy
Increasing age
Obesity
Hormonal changes
Increasing age
Lack of movement
Sun exposure
What is the Cutera CoolGlide Excel™?

The Cutera CoolGlide Excel™ laser is a state-of-the-art vein-removal system has been specially designed to treat spider veins and other vascular lesions with great success. This treatment is safe and accurate, posing no risk of damaging surrounding tissue. It requires no down-time as it is non-surgical and injection free. The procedure is effective and results are quick.

How does laser vein treatment work?

The laser hand piece precisely destroys large and deep blood vessels and leg veins, removing veins up to 10 mm in diameter. The laser light passes through a specifically designed chilled hand piece which helps protect the skin from damage and minimizes patient discomfort. Each light pulse lasts for only several thousandths of a second, so the energy from the beam is almost completely absorbed by the red cells in the vein, without significant spread to the surrounding tissue. The veins are heated and form clots resulting in closure and gradual re-absorption of the vein.

What type of veins will it treat?

Since the Cutera CoolGlide Excel™ Laser uses an adjustable beam, it can treat many different sized veins, although it is used most often for smaller veins. The Cutera CoolGlide Excel Laser™ can be used anywhere on the body, except around the eyes, and treatment can almost always be performed without anesthesia. Small leg veins respond with minimal discomfort. With larger leg veins, which absorb more energy, the sensation is similar to the snap of a rubber band. Because of the unique design and flexibility of the system and its hand piece, we can customize the treatment according to your skin color and the size and depth of your veins.

How successful is vein treatment?

In just a few treatment sessions, the appearance of your skin can be permanently improved. Many patients find 60% to 80% of the treated vessels resolved after one session. During your vein removal consultation, you will be advised as to the number of treatments necessary to achieve your desired results.

Is there another option?

Sclerotherapy is another treatment option for the removal of spider veins and smaller varicose veins. Veins are injected with a sterile chemical sclerant, which irritates the vessel’s lining, making it become inflamed, harden, and eventually fade away completely. Small to medium sized veins respond best to sclerotherapy procedures. There are many other techniques available for the effective treatment of larger vein problems, which you can discuss with your practitioner.
